Types of Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can be performed using several different methods, depending on the patient’s goals, body type, and other factors. Here are the main types of breast augmentation:

Saline Implants

These implants are filled with sterile saltwater. They are inserted empty and then filled once they’re in place, allowing for smaller incisions. If a saline implant ruptures, the body naturally absorbs the saline without harm.

Silicone Implants

These are pre-filled with a silicone gel that feels more like natural breast tissue. Silicone implants require a larger incision for insertion, and in the event of a rupture, the gel may remain within the implant shell or leak into the breast implant pocket.

Gummy Bear Implants

Also known as form-stable implants, these are a type of silicone implant filled with a thicker, cohesive gel. These implants retain their shape better and are less likely to leak, but they also require a longer incision.

Fat Transfer

This method, also known as autologous fat transfer, involves liposuction to remove fat from another part of the body (such as the abdomen or thighs) and injecting it into the breasts. This is ideal for those looking for a more natural, subtle enhancement without synthetic implants.

Composite Breast Augmentation

This technique combines implants with fat transfer to provide more natural contours and feel. The implant creates volume, while fat transfer helps smooth out the transition between the implant and surrounding tissue.
